Safety First when Trampolining

safety first when trampolining

Trampolining is currently one of the most popular recreation activities as well as a competitive sport that is gaining acclaim throughout the world.

The sport is beginning to pick-up in Kenya and enthusiasts are beginning to appreciate the fact that it is now possible for them to acquire the equipment locally without much hassle through Thrifty Enterprises.

If you are considering investing in trampolines in Kenya or already have one or more, it is important to note that safety should always be at the forefront. Taking note of some of the following pointers will help you avoid any eventualities that may occur due to non-adherence of safety procedures.

Safety netting

Novices and small children are advised to use a trampoline that is installed with a safety net. This will prevent anyone on the trampoline from falling off. This is a simple consideration that could potentially prevent any serious injuries.

Periodical checks

Even if you’re not an expert at servicing trampolines, you are advised to always check out the state of the apparatus before anyone uses it.  Check for anything that may have come loose or looks out of place. In-case you come across anything unusual it is advisable to contact the dealer or supplier of the trampoline for further advice.

Supervision

If a trampoline is being used by children or a novice, it is advisable to have someone to oversee the activity.  Adult supervision may not be a 100% guarantee of safety but it definitely goes a long way in reducing potential risks. Non-supervision has been cited as one of the major causes of accidents.

Limit jumpers

It is not safe to have more than the recommended number of people on a trampoline at a time.

In-case there are multiple people on the trampoline, they should be advised to take turns in order to avoid unnecessary injuries.

Research shows that close to 80% of all trampoline injuries are caused by having more than the recommended number of people jumping at the same time.

No fluids

Ensure that there are no fluids close to the trampoline. Any liquid matter could lead to slips while jumping.  This is more dangerous when there is no safety net to restrict serious falls

Positioning

It is important to place a trampoline in an area that is clear of any potential safety hazards such as fences, walls, poles, washing lines or peripheral equipment. It is recommended that the trampoline should be at least 2.5 meters from any possible obstruction.

The ground where it is placed should be energy absorbing such as a springy lawn or a sandy surface.  Any other suitable cushioning material can be considered as long as it is flat and stable enough to sufficiently absorb continuous impact. Hard surfaces such as concrete are not recommended especially if a safety net is not being used.

Safety features

When purchasing a trampoline, ensure that it comes with the recommended safety components.  Safety pads should be standard features that cover the frame, springs and hooks which could be potential safety hazards. Do not be afraid to ask the supplier about any safety concerns that you may have.

Have fun!

The most important thing is to have fun when using trampolines in Kenya. Safety issues need not impede the fun factor, therefore, once all considerations have been observed; ensure that you enjoy your experience to the fullest.
